Yahoo - Russ Michna, starting quarterback of the division-leading Chicago Rush, was criticized after missing a crucial game last weekend to attend a wedding. In his absence, the Rush lost 77-43 to the Arizona Rattlers. The 30-year-old veteran was ripped by Arizona game announcers for his choice. Michna received permission to miss the game at the start of the season. Michna is reportedly making $18,000 to play in 18 regular season games for the Rush. Total.

The AFL?  That’s what we’re talking about here?  The AFL?  Seriously I don’t know what’s more shocking here.  The fact that the starting quarterback of a football team skipped a huge game for a wedding, or the fact that literally anybody cares.  I mean there is an entire AFL message board devoted to their loss of respect for Russ Michna.  Hey whatever floats your boat.  As for taking the personal day I’m kind of torn.  Like on the one hand I’m all about being there for your teammates and honoring your commitments and leaving your heart out on the field.   But at the same time this bro makes $18K a year.  $1000 bucks a game.  I don’t even think that’s minimum wage.  Like that’s less than half of legitimate 9-5 sit in a cube daily grind job money.    I’d take a weekend to go to my buddy’s wedding and fuck a bridesmaid too.  Listen if you’re a professional athlete and I’m making more money than you something is desperately wrong.  You guys want me to toss some more touchdown passes?  Try paying me more than the bro who mows my lawn.  Until then I’ll be black-tied out every weekend balls deep in the bride’s sister.

CNet – Virgin Atlantic will soon allow passengers to use their cell phones during flights. The airline announced today it will allow passengers to make in-flight phone calls, send and receive texts, check e-mail, and surf the Web via general packet radio service (GPRS) from inside A330 Airbus planes on flights between New York and London. The airline expects to offer the service in 20 planes by year’s end, it said in a press release. Boeing 747s are also being retrofitted for the service. “We have listened to what customers want and connectivity in the air is always on the wish list,” Virgin Atlantic Chief Operating Officer Steve Griffiths said in the release. “Many people will have experienced that moment when you’re about to take off on a 10-hour flight and you need to send an important message to the office, or even reminding a family member to feed the cat.” However, that privilege will not be cheap: Virgin will charge about $1.20 per minute for the service, and access will be limited to six passengers at a time.

Oh great!  Cell phone service in planes!  Now we can all finally relax on that cross country or transatlantic flight.  Because nothing says comfort like the chicks on the plane calling their best friend and analyzing the date they had last night or talking about how it hurts their feelings when their boyfriends don’t acknowledge their new outfits and haircuts.  I mean I don’t know if this is just a personal thing but hearing people talk on the phone is like my biggest fucking pet peeve.  Sure it would be great to shoot off a text message during a flight but if at’s the expense of hearing all the chatterboxes blabber about their stupid lives I’m fuckin OUT.   And don’t give me that “the privilege will not be cheap” bullshit.   All that price tag is going to do is make sure only the super rich fat cats can talk on the phone.  Now I get to listen to Joe Bank Trader talk about that deal he’s got going down in the European markets while Asia tries to short him for 6 hours.   How Bolivian coffee futures are at 88 and dropping like a brick.  By tomorrow is could be 85 or lower!  Sweet.  Hey bro 99%er tryin to nap over here.  Shut the fuck up.

NBC – Missouri wants to ban the University of Kansas Jayhawk specialty license plate, and some representatives seem quite passionate about it. The reason? Kansas won’t play Missouri in football and basketball. Missouri is switching from the Big 12 Conference to the SEC. “Like generations of Missourians before us, we face an incursion from the west,” Missouri Rep. Stephen Webber (D-Columbia) said on the House floor Tuesday. “It will be repulsed. This is the effort to affix the dreaded, disgusting Jayhawks symbol to our Missouri license plates.” The irony here is that the effort to ban the plates is a bipartisan issue: Missouri Rep. Caleb Jones (R-California) is co-sponsor of the bill. Republicans and Democrats agreeing on anything is rare and noteworthy. “It is exceptionally insulting this year,” Webber said Tuesday. “This year is the year that those folks to the west after 120 years of competition have decided not to meet our teams on the field of competition. I don’t like KU on any circumstances. This year that they can’t find the heart and courage to play us, is the year they want to add something to our license plates. Not if this Legislature has anything to do about it.”

In response, Kansas lawmakers are doing the mature thing — threatening to enact similar legislation banning Missouri logos on Kansas plates. Kansas Rep. Mike Slattery (D-Mission) joined his GOP colleague in attacking their neighbors to the east. “ We have been taking Missouri jobs for years. If they want to stop the license plates as a form of payback, then so be it.”

Politics is so legit.  I mean talk about a noble profession.  Changing the world.  Making it a better place.  Improving society.  Being a leader of men.  Sitting in a big room yelling and arguing and banging gavels around enacting laws to ban license plates of rival sports teams because you are pissed they are switching conferences.   Hearing that another state is doing that so calling an emergency meeting so that you can do it too out of spite.  Getting shit DONE.  Meanwhile the roads are falling apart and citywide infrastructure is weakening and the economy is crashing.  Don’t worry we’ll get to that once license plates are off the docket.  Just sit tight.  Politicans doing work around here.

PS-  How about that absolute facial from Rep Slattery?  Not pulling any punches with that quote.  It’s all fun and games and sports rivalry talk until somebody brings up your deadbeat unemployment.

SAN CLEMENTE – A 43-year-old woman is undergoing surgery after two rocks that she collected at a South County beach ignited in the pocket of her shorts, officials from Orange County Fire Authority said. The incident happened about 3:30 p.m. Saturday when the woman was standing in her kitchen after returning from an outing to Trestles Beach. She had been home for about an hour when the pocket of her cargo shorts caught fire, OCFA Capt. Marc Stone said. The woman tried to stop, drop and roll but was unsuccessful in getting the flames out, Stone said. Her husband also tried to help and got second-degree burns when he tried to pull the shorts off, Stone said. The rocks, described as small, the size of a hamburger patty, smooth and orange and green in color, fell from the shorts onto the floor and continued to burn the wood floor and fill the house with smoke.

Hey lady.  This ain’t ‘Nam.  Ditch the cargo shorts.  Seriously not sure what more incentive you need to stop wearing cargo shorts than rocks from the beach literally spontaneously combusting and blowing you up?  It’s  God directly telling you you look like an asshole.   I mean rocks blowing up?  Is that even possible?   The answer is no it’s not possible.  Not unless there is divine intervention to serve as a wake up call that you’re a braindead fashion misfit.    You’re not a 12 year old boy and you’re not a landscaper.  Put some big boy clothes on and maybe your rock collection won’t explode in one of your 18 pockets and burn your face off.    Kmarko’s Fashion Corner, out.
